Making Room for God in a Busy Season

Summer often brings a different kind of busy-ness.

The days are longer.

There are more opportunities to gather.

Family may be visiting.

Children may be home.

There are holidays to plan, places to go, people to see, and memories to make.

And while these things can all be beautiful gifts, sometimes, even good things can leave our souls feeling crowded.

We can become so busy living that we forget to stop and be present with God.

This is where the story of Mary and Martha speaks so beautifully to Christian women today.

Martha was busy serving.

Mary was sitting at Jesus' feet.

Neither sister was doing something inherently wrong.

But Jesus gently pointed Martha back to what mattered most.

"Mary has chosen what is better..." — Luke 10:42

Biblical womanhood isn't about doing everything perfectly.

It is about knowing what deserves our attention.

💖 1. You Don't Have to Do It All

Martha's story is familiar to many Christian women.

She was serving.

She was preparing.

She was carrying responsibility.

And eventually, she became overwhelmed.

Perhaps you can relate.

There are seasons when we can find ourselves carrying too much.

Trying to maintain the home.

Trying to care for everyone.

Trying to be present for family.

Trying to keep up with spiritual disciplines.

Trying to be productive.

Trying to make everything beautiful.

And before long, we realise that we've become so focused on doing that we've forgotten to simply be.

Biblical femininity does not require you to carry everything.

A godly woman is not defined by how much she can accomplish.

She is defined by where her heart is rooted.

🌸 2. Sitting at Jesus' Feet Comes First

Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet.

She listened.

She received.

She was present.

And Jesus called it "the better portion."

This doesn't mean that serving is unimportant.

It doesn't mean that homemaking, caring for others, hospitality, or daily responsibilities don't matter.

They do.

But they become different when they flow from a heart that has first been with Christ.

As Christian women embracing biblical womanhood in today's modern world, we need to remember:

We don't serve in order to earn God's love.

We serve because we already have it.

We don't work to prove our worth.

We work from an identity that is already secure in Christ.

And we don't have to choose between being faithful and being present with God.

We simply need to put being present with God first.

🕊️ 3. Create Space for God in Your Real Life

Sometimes we imagine that spending time with God requires perfect circumstances.

A quiet house.

A beautiful morning routine.

An hour of uninterrupted Bible study.

A perfectly organised prayer journal.

But life doesn't always look like that.

Sometimes meeting with God looks like:

  • A five-minute prayer before the day begins.

  • Reading one Psalm while drinking your morning coffee.

  • Whispering a prayer while preparing dinner.

  • Listening to Scripture while travelling.

  • Sitting quietly with God before reaching for your phone.

Biblical womanhood isn't about creating a picture-perfect spiritual life.

It's about making room for Christ in the life you actually have.

Even small moments of intentionality can become beautiful opportunities to draw near to Him.

🌿 4. Don't Let Busy-ness Steal Your Peace

One of the most important lessons from Mary and Martha is that busy-ness can affect our hearts.

Martha wasn't simply busy.

She was anxious.

Distracted.

Frustrated.

Her outward activity had begun to affect her inward peace.

And perhaps that's something we all need to consider.

What happens inside us when life becomes too full?

Do we become impatient?

Resentful?

Overwhelmed?

Disconnected?

Sometimes the answer isn't to simply become more efficient.

Sometimes we need to pause and ask:

What am I saying yes to that God hasn't asked me to carry?

A godly woman learns that saying no can sometimes be an act of wisdom.

Rest can be an act of faith.

And creating space for God can be more valuable than completing one more thing on the list.

💕 5. Choosing the Better Portion

Jesus' words to Martha were not a condemnation.

They were an invitation.

An invitation to stop striving.

An invitation to put down the pressure.

An invitation to remember what mattered most.

"Mary has chosen what is better..."

As you continue your journey of embracing biblical womanhood in today's modern world, remember that your relationship with Christ must always come before your performance for Christ.

Your identity comes before your roles.

Your relationship with God comes before your responsibilities.

Your being comes before your doing.

This is at the heart of biblical femininity.

Not striving.

Not perfectionism.

Not constantly trying to prove that you are enough.

Simply abiding in the One who already calls you His own.

💬 Reflection & Prayer

Reflection: Where has your life become too crowded? Is there something you may need to release, simplify, or say no to in order to make more room for Christ?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me that I don't have to do everything. Help me to recognise when busy-ness is stealing my peace and distracting me from what matters most. Teach me to sit at Your feet before I rush into serving, and help me build a life that makes room for Your presence. Shape me into a godly woman who knows when to work, when to rest, and when to simply be still with You. May my life flow from a heart that is deeply rooted in Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen🌿

💕 Closing Note

Biblical womanhood isn't about how much you can accomplish.

It is about who you are becoming as you walk closely with Christ.

As you continue embracing biblical femininity, may you learn to recognise what truly matters, release the pressure to do it all, and choose the better portion — a life rooted in the presence of Jesus.

→ Share this with a sister who needs the reminder that she doesn't have to do it all to be a godly woman.
