Welcome to Day 1 of our Advent journey!
Christmas is on its way, and so is the chance to reflect on the true meaning of the season.
This Advent devotional series is all about preparing our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Today, we are starting with one of the most beloved Christmas Bible verses: Isaiah 9:6 — a prophecy about the coming Saviour that brings hope and joy to all who hear it.
This verse is like a Christmas gift wrapped in beautiful promises.
Hundreds of years before Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Isaiah foretold the coming of a child who would change everything.
This wasn’t just any child.
This was the Messiah — the one who would carry the weight of the world on His shoulders and bring hope, peace, and salvation to everyone who believes in Him.
When Isaiah describes Jesus as Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace, he’s not just listing impressive titles.
He’s telling us who Jesus is for us.
Need wisdom? He’s your Counsellor.
Feeling weak? He’s your Mighty God.
Feeling lost or unloved? He’s your Everlasting Father.
Longing for peace? He’s the Prince who brings it.
A Reflection on Hope
Hope is such a powerful thing, isn’t it?
It’s what keeps us going in hard times and gives us something to look forward to. But the hope we find in Jesus is even better — it’s certain.
Isaiah’s prophecy wasn’t just wishful thinking; it was a guaranteed promise from God.
And guess what?
That promise was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, which we celebrate every Christmas.
As we look around during this season, from twinkling lights to heartfelt carols, everything reminds us of one truth: Jesus came for you.
He is the light in the darkness, the fulfilment of prophecy, and the ultimate gift of hope.
This Advent let’s fix our eyes on the hope that Jesus brings — not just a fleeting, seasonal feeling, but a deep, unshakable promise that God is with us.

Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of hope that we find in Jesus. As we begin this Advent season, help us to remember that You are faithful to keep Your promises. Fill our hearts with the joy and anticipation of celebrating the birth of Your Son, our Saviour. May we find comfort in knowing that Jesus is our Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Draw us closer to You each day of this Advent journey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
